About this event

The award winning Medmerry scheme has successfully realigned 300 hectares of coastline adjacent to Selsey, West Sussex.

Come and hear the full story - from the original concept to cutting the “hole” through the beach to let the sea in.

The talk will cover:

  • How community engagement and partnership was essential
  • Designing the scheme to achieve flood risk reduction; provide fantastic new habitat; and make the most of public access to the new RSPB reserve.
  • Overcoming construction challenges
  • How the scheme has performed to date

Our speakers Joe Pearce and Colin Maplesden have over 35 years’ combined experience of Environment Agency Flood and Coastal Risk Management projects. They led the Medmerry project team and will offer valuable insights into what it really takes to deliver such an ambitious and multi-functional project.
