About this event

This presentation provides a resume of some of the engineering challenges of placing 25kV OLE on a railway built over the last 175 years, primarily designed for steam even if some was at 7 foot gauge. There is an overview of some of the safety and life cycle cost models used to inform decisions on the type of intervention required at locations where free running clearance is not achievable.

Paul Barnes current role is leading Network Rail’s Western Route on Control Period asset management planning in accordance with ISO 55000, particularly development of Intelligent Infrastructure using big data sources from the new train fleets and traditional SCADA systems on fixed infrastructure, and he represents the route on national governance panels.
