There are over 60,000 cable strikes every year with electricity causing the most significant injuries. Large fines can be imposed if a cable strike leads to a successful prosecution – at the end of 2015, two construction companies were fined a total £90,000 plus prosecution costs after two workers were seriously injured following a cable strike at a London construction site.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) investigation found a series of failings including inadequate risk assessment, lack of communication, lack of supervision and inadequate checks on competence.

But what happens if a company gets all of those things right? What happens if there is still a cable strike despite a company's best efforts to train, supervise and enable its employees? When will HSE focus its attention on individuals?

On 14 September, join ICE's Mock Trial in London with an audience of around 200 “jurors”.

This engaging and thought provoking event will allow you to sit as a juror in a mock trial of an employee prosecuted under the Health and Safety at Work Act. You will see a 'snapshot' of evidence from the prosecution and the defence as an employee has to face the consequences of his actions and inactions. You will also be asked to determine guilt – and sentence.

The event also includes important messages covering: communication, adherence to H&S documentation, training and designer responsibilities.
