Advances in civil engineering - recent trends for foundation equipment, Hong Kong

About this event

To cope with the increasing demand for quality and efficiency of foundation and geotechnical construction, constant improvements on foundation equipment, computer-aided construction and automation will be necessary.

The technical talk will cover discussions on some recent trends in the development of foundation equipment including the following:

  • Development of technical support systems to enable construction of pile foundations with uniform quality
  • Concept of single pass construction to enable different types of operation to be conducted using the same foundation equipment in a continuous manner
  • System automation to relieve machine operators of monotonous and repetitive operations
  • Real-time installation control of the production process, data transfer and reporting systems to enhance design and quality control
  • Extending the capacities of foundation equipment to deeper ground and to wider range of ground conditions

Discussion topics include:

  • Recent trends in development of foundation equipment
  • Concept of single pass piling for enhancing faster pile installation
  • Cutter soil mixing – aiming for deeper ground and variable ground conditions
  • Ground improvement – new techniques and further improvements
  • Automation – relieving the burden of operator and achieving uniform quality

Capacity: 110pax

Remarks

*Priority will be given to ICE members

Speakers

Franz-Werner Gerressen

Director of Method Development Department at BAUER Maschinen, Germany.

He has studied at the RWTH Aachen and has become a civil engineer. Since 1992, after joining BAUER Spezialtiefbau, a sister company of BAUER Maschinen, he was responsible for some departments like the Department of Construction of Diaphragm and Cut off Walls as well as for Ground Improvement Department.

Since 2004 he builds up the Department of Method Development for BAUER Maschinen with the main focus on methods like Cutter Soil Mixing or Full Displacement Piles. In addition to the development, he has been involved in the promotion and introduction of new technologies and required equipment not only for Cutter Soil Mixing, Full Displacement Piles and Cased CFA, but also for well know technologies like diaphragm and cut-off walls, piling and soil improvement, in countries all over the world.
