This evening lecture provides an insight into the Advanced Boiling Water Reactor (ABWR) technology designed by Hitachi-GE Nuclear Electric Ltd. The UK ABWR successfully achieved generic design acceptance by the UK's Regulators in December 2017. The ABWR is the chosen technology for the proposed Wyfla Newydd nuclear power station, which is to be built by Horizon Nuclear Power Ltd.

Kaz is seconded to Horizon Nuclear Power Ltd from Hitachi Nuclear Energy Europe Ltd as Client Technical Adviser. He has over 20 years of experience in ABWR Nuclear Island System engineering.
Previously, he was UK ABWR GDA project manager in Hitachi-GE Nuclear Energy, and also responsible for mechanical engineering aspect of Wylfa Newydd ABWR design for 2 years. Prior to the project manager role, He was responsible manager of Nuclear Island System engineering team for both domestic and international Hitachi-GE's ABWR/BWR fleets.

Sarah Jones is a chartered civil engineer with 30 years experience in heavy civil engineering structures She works within the Client ABWR Technical Adviser group which supports Horizon Nuclear Power. She has worked on the ABWR project for 4 years, mainly on the generic design assessment and now is helping to transfer that to site specific design for Wylfa Newydd. Sarah previously worked as a Nuclear Safety Inspector for the Office for Nuclear Regulation.
