What role shoud nuclear power play in the UK energy market.

About this event

The "UK Energy Mix" is a term that is regularly used in the media. A significant proportion of this is planned to be nuclear power, due to its ability to provide the grid with a sustained base load.

There is an enormous appetite by industry for new nuclear power plants in the UK to fill the gap left by the ageing fleet, but a mix of socioeconomic and political constraints mean that it hasn't been smooth sailing. Construction has not progressed as quickly as some may have hoped.

There are a range of nuclear technologies that could supplement the traditional nuclear power stations, such as small modular reactors (SMRs). The panel will discuss these new technologies and what can be done to facilitate quicker construction of nuclear new builds in the UK.

Joint event with IMechE and IET.
