About this event

In honour of International Women in Engineering Day, ICE has partnered with WISE to host "People Like Me," a mother/daughter event intended to show girls that people just like them are happy and successful working in STEM careers.

The event is an interactive self-discovery workshop and is based on the WISE "People Like Me" innovative research findings to engage girls with STEM careers.

The event is directed at school girls (aged 11-18) and will include parents and teachers. The aim is to support the girls to consider the type of person they are, and offer them opportunity to meet and speak with female STEM role models with a view to their considering a STEM career, and being made aware of the variety of routes including Higher Education as well as apprenticeships. The session will highlight the wide variety of STEM career roles and opportunities available at all levels, and to all girls and women, and will challenge negative perceptions of the industry.

Research shows that positive role models are the most effective way of breaking down the stereotypes and myths that young people, parents and teachers have about careers in this sector, and in supporting them to consider this career option positively.

This event is sponsored by Arup, Doran Consulting, Graham and Translink.
