About this event

The QEII bridge joint replacement project involved replacing 6 worn out bridge joints without disrupting traffic flows over the bridge.

This was achieved by utilising a temporary ramp system that allowed work to the joint replacement operations to continue with traffic running uninterrupted. The operation to install the temporary ramp had to be completed in a single shift overnight (Sat/Sun) so that the bridge was fully open by 10.00am on Sunday morning.

Extensive trails were conducted off-site, with the outputs being recorded and assessing/quantifying the risks using @Risk to provide HE with a Quantified Risk Assessment (QRA) from which a 14 hour closure was then granted.

In Phase 1, 160 shifts were undertaken and not one overran!
