The talk will describe historical chalk mining in the context of past industrial activities dating from late 1700s to late 1800s including the processing of materials and equipment used, the land stability legacy issues and make particular reference to the Coley area of Reading and recent project work at Pinner, NW London. The two projects demonstrate the advancement made in 3D visualisation and modelling as newer underground survey techniques have been developed.
Our speaker, Dr Clive Edmonds has 30 years’ experience of predicting, modelling, investigating and remedial treatment of mining and natural cavity geohazards. He is regularly involved with expert witness cases. He has written more than 30 technical papers on the subject, given numerous talks and appeared on radio and TV including the recently aired Channel 5 ‘Sinkholes’ programme.
Note that the talk will follow immediately after Thames Valley Branch’s AGM.
