Reality capture and engineering simulation, a joint meeting with CICES, Southampton

About this event

The processes now being used to link up measurement and data capture, modelling and visualisation will be presented and also how BIM of existing assets, engineering analysis and simulation is being developed. Project examples, including recent research completed for Historic England, the assessment of The Iron Bridge and how advanced simulation is being used to predict true behaviour will all be discussed.

Carl will wrap up with a recent Ramboll innovation aimed at improving model visualisation and accessibility of BIM and how this can be used to enhance drawing content.

Our speaker, Carl Brookes, is Director leading Ramboll's Engineering Simulation Team, based in Southampton. He has 35 years' experience in the analysis of civil, building and industrial structures and he has been responsible for a wide range of projects involving the application of advanced modelling techniques to predict real behaviour.

Much of this work has focused on existing assets, including those with significant heritage importance and this has led to a streamlining process that, for example, links point cloud data with numerical models used to predict performance.

Carl is also active within the BIM4Heritage special interest group, now established within BIM4Communities and he sits on the NAFEMS (International Association for the Engineering, Modelling, Analysis and Simulation Community) UK Steering committee.
