Join Professor Hicks from the University of Warwick for a webinar on the second generation of Structural Eurocodes.
The structural Eurocodes are a set of design standards for building and civil engineering works, developed by European Committee for Standardization (CEN). They replaced the former UK design standards created by the British Standards Institution (BSI) in 2010. Countries outside Europe have also adopted the Eurocodes as their national standards, such as Singapore and Hong Kong.
Taking into consideration the industry responses to the 2014 systematic review, Project Teams commenced work on the second generation of Eurocodes in 2015, which has a duration of seven years.
Drawing on his personal experience from working on three of the Eurocode 4 Project Teams, Professor Hicks will provide a general overview of the second generation of the Eurocodes, as well as discuss some of the changes and innovations that are being proposed to the existing documents. He will also present the new Eurocodes that have been developed under this initiative.
Prof. Stephen Hicks joined the University of Warwick in 2019. He was previously General Manager at the New Zealand Heavy Engineering Research Association (HERA) between 2008 and 2019, and was Senior Manager at the Steel Construction Institute (SCI), UK between 1997 and 2008.
Stephen has represented the UK on the CEN Committee responsible for Eurocode 4 since 2005 (the steel and concrete composite buildings and bridge design standard) and has recently been elected to the position of Vice Chair for this Committee. As well as Chairing the first Australasian steel and composite bridge design standard AS/NZS 5100.6 between 2011 and 2017, he has been a member of three of the Project Teams responsible for drafting the second generation of Eurocode 4 since 2015. In addition to national and international standards, he has expertise in the development of new construction products for manufacturers in both Europe and the Asia-Pacific region, and has provided specialist consulting services to designers (in particular, in the area of floor vibrations).
Stephen has regularly delivered CPD courses to designers within Europe, Australasia and Singapore, and has delivered several Eurocodes training courses on steel structures in China.
