Site visit: Dover Western dock revival, Dover

About this event

The £250 million DWDR development is the single biggest investment ever undertaken by the Port and represents the next exciting evolution of the Port, delivering long-term capacity for a key international gateway handling trade to the value of £122bn representing up to 17% of UK trade in goods.

The revival of the western part of the Port estate supports the developing destination agenda for Dover, being identified as the key catalyst for the wider regeneration of area. It will deliver valuable employment opportunities both during construction and on completion of the new cargo facility.

With a contract value of £115m, VSBW are currently delivering the marine structures and bridge contract. This construction stage includes the design and build of two new berths including quay walls and land reclamation, a new marina pier, the marina curve, navigation channel and new lock gates, bascule bridge and capital dredging work.

Approximately one million cubic meters of silt, gravel and chalk will be removed from the harbour and the project requires two million cubic metres of sand for use as infill material for land reclamation.

The agenda of the site visit will be confirmed to registered attendees at a later date but will likely to include:

  • Welcome and introduction from the Port of Dover
  • Safety site induction and PPE kit-out (attendees must bring their own safety boots {not rigger boots} – all other PPE will be provided)
  • Overview of civil engineering for DWDR
  • Walking tour of the Site

Time: 13.45 hrs for 14.00 hrs prompt start

The start time has been chosen to allow attendees from the London area to catch the 12.37 hrs train from St Pancras International to Dover Priory, (arr. 13.41 hrs).
