About this event

County waste management contractor Severn Waste Services operates the EnviroSort Comingled Materials Reclamation Facility (CMRF) at Norton near Worcester.

The plant receives and sorts for onward despatch some 6,500 tonnes per month of mixed paper, card, plastic, metal and glass containers collected by the District Councils across Worcestershire and Herefordshire. These kerbside collections have contributed to the Authorities currently achieving recycling rates of around 43%.

Processing the comingled materials combines a mix of separation technologies – magnets, eddy current separators, optical sorters and ballistic separators – together with hand sorting of 'contrary' materials put out for collection in error.

Working under strict planning conditions and an Environmental Permit issued by the Environment Agency all materials handling is carried out inside the main building.
