The reservoir was constructed in 1955 and when full covers 142 acres, holding more than 2,600 million litres of water, which is treated and supplied to towns and villages throughout south Somerset.
Meeting at the Fishing Lodge for light refreshments, the ICE members will be given a short informative presentation on the history and workings of the reservoir before observing the reservoir/dam and accessing the water tower.
The Postcode for Sutton Bingham Reservoir is BA22 9QL. If you turn off the A37 where it is signposted to the memorial forest, then follow the road about ½ mile until you see a red post box on a triangle in road (can’t miss it!). From there, you can see the gateway into the memorial forest and the Fishing Lodge.
