About this event

Leeds Station is the second busiest outside London and sits at the heart of the region's economy and hosts 100,000 passengers each day. Increasing passenger demand, congestion to the existing northern entrance and an aspiration to reduce journey time to the expanding south of the city has resulted in the need for the new Leeds Station Southern Entrance (LSSE). The new entrance is expected to serve up to 20,000 passengers daily.

LSSE is located over the River Aire, in a location where residential towers, an electrified railway and a pedestrian bridge all constrain the site. This is the ideal location to meet the project objectives of accessibility from the south and to create a landmark building but required creative and innovative design solutions to deliver.

Light refreshments will be served at 5.30, before the lecture which starts at 6.00pm

Ian Besford

Ian Besford

Ian is a Projects Director at Mott MacDonald and leads the structural engineering team in the Sheffield Office. His experience includes pioneering use of digital modelling and visualization tools from the start of his career. Ian was instrumental in driving adoption of modern processes and technology across his team's delivery, leading to him taking the role of BIM champion for structural engineering. Ian is Mott MacDonald's Project Director for this project.

Jon is a Principal Structural Engineer at Mott MacDonald with over 10 years of experience in the design and delivery of complex structural engineering schemes across a range of sectors. As Mott MacDonald's project manager for Leeds Station he has been responsible for the design and delivery of the engineering scheme.
