Summer visit to kilns at Rosedale Bank Top, Ryedale

About this event

The four sets of Rosedale kilns and associated infrastructure were clearly built by giants. This visit will look at what mere mortals have been trying to achieve to stabilise the remaining 30% of the walls and vaults.

The works at Bank Top should be almost complete and the scaffolding removed to allow easier viewing, but the ground is rough and very steep. Boots recommended.

The works are part of the North York Moors National Park Land of Iron project. A range of guides will be available to discuss the historic and recent civil engineering.

The views from the pub are most spectacular. Hot food generally costs £13. This will need to be ordered in advance.

Places are likely to be limited. The event is free but please register.

Please meet for 6pm start at the two adjacent car parks at Bank Top on Rosedale Chimney Bank - Grid Ref 54.344105, -0.888349.

At 7.30pm please meet 200m below the site at White Horse Farm Inn - YO18 8SE.
