In order to help balance the UK economy, the government has set out an ambitious vision to better connect the cities of the north in a bid to develop a Northern Powerhouse.

This presentation will outline the Transport for the North agenda, the Greater Manchester 2040 vision and devolution programme in order to help realise the Northern Powerhouse

Dave Newton has responsibility for strategy, policy, research, analysis and transport planning and solutions development in his role as TfGM's Transport Strategy Director.

Dave's career to date, spans transport consultancy and two spells at TfGM. In particular, Dave has enjoyed significant roles in Greater Manchester's £3bn Transport Innovation Fund (TIF) bid, the delivery of the 2002 Commonwealth Games and the redevelopment of Manchester city centre in the aftermath of the 1996 bomb.

More recently, Dave has played a leading role in Greater Manchester's HS2 proposals and the on-going work on Transport for the North. TfGM has recently published a new 2040 Transport Vision.

Dave is a keen commuter and leisure cyclist and has led GM's successful Local Sustainable Transport Fund and Cycle City bids, securing in the region of £100m.
