A look back into the railway tunnels of London.
A look back into the railway tunnels of London.

About this event

As the oldest metro system in the world, our Underground is a pioneer system of engineering and design and has been part of the capital’s transport infrastructure for more than 150 years, keeping London working and growing, and making life in the city better.

In what promises to be an interesting and engaging presentation, Keith Bowers will describe the chronological history of London’s railway tunnel network starting from the construction of Brunel’s Thames Tunnel and progressing towards the present day.

It will include illustrations of the network's development, and the tunnelling technologies that were developed and applied at different times and will consider the long-term development of a sustainable underground railway fit for our future.
