Consultation on the proposed Town and Country Planning (EIA) Regulations 2017 and the Infrastructure Planning (EIA) Regulations 2017 was undertaken by Government earlier this year. These Regulations will implement amendments made by Directive 2014/52/EU (the EIA Directive). The Directive will also apply to other EIA regimes including those for energy, ports and highways.
The presentation will focus on the main changes to EIA brought about by the Regulations such as greater emphasis on EIA Screening (whether EIA is required), additional topics to be included within EIA and the provision for environmental monitoring. The presentation will put these requirements in a developer/ local authority perspective and also provide insight from the environmental industry on the changes.
