The ICE and IStructE would like to invite you to an evening talk which will take a retrospective view of the choices and decisions that influenced the electrification of the Great Western railway.

This event is FREE and open to all (including the general public)

Sandwiches and refreshments are available from 18:00 with the talk commencing at 18:30

Speakers

Howard Elliot

Howard is a Chartered Civil Engineer and Project Engineering Manager on the Great Western Electrification Project. Howard graduated from City University in the early 90’s and went into contracting for regional and national organisations, from there he took the opportunity to work for designers on major international engineering projects.

 

He joined Network Rail in 2006 where he has worked on their FTN/GSM-R, Blackfriars Station and Great Western Electrification projects. He has been part of the electrification project since its inception over seven years ago, providing engineering leadership for the design integration of this new flagship scheme into this historic and operational railway.

Jo Griffiths

Jo is the Principal Civil Engineer for Western and Wales IP and Principal System Safety Engineer for The Greater West Programme, which includes Great Western Electrification. Chartered in 2005 she is a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) gained through a successful rail career delivering in a range of roles from designer, engineering manager, and project director; with P&L accountability and international experience.

 

Jo has been part of the electrification project since 2012 providing civil design solutions, and now leads the system safety, RAM (reliability, availability and maintainability), safe integration and interoperability for the programme.
