Trackwork design on a Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system is complex with respect to coordination requirements and minimal availability to mitigate construction deviations. The fundamentals of the track geometry and system parameters will provide the operational requirements of the MRT system. Safety and risk assessments will define the facilities to ensure safety requirements are adhered to.
Detailing the trackwork with its associated infrastructure (power rail, point motors, crossovers, cable throughs, trackforms) and rail ancillaries requires detailed considerations of geometric constraints, speed profile, clearance requirements, system interface, constructability and maintainability. BIM modelling has proven it value to identify clashes, missing detailing and constructability issues leading to accurate detailing of the works.
This presentation will outline the key issues and solutions in trackwork design on an MRT system project.

Reuben is a Chartered Engineer experienced in rail, underground works, and civil engineering. He has extensive local and international experience, and specialises in the management, design, and construction of MRT, LRT, heavy railway and tunnel projects. Reuben’s experience on varied aspects of rail alignments, permanent way, track forms, civil infrastructure, systems and tunnels ensures that he is well experienced for Trackwork Independent Verification role on the GCLR. The Technical Director Reuben Lamack from Jacobs will provide technical insights on the key challengers of trackwork design on a Mass Rapid Transit system. He will outline design fundamentals and lessons learned on trackwork design, provide insights of the delivery of the design with BIM, highlight key design coordination requirements with systems, walkway, elevated and tunnel structures and share some constructability issues leading to design changes.
