Traffic modelling and new data sources, Lincoln

About this event

The explosion in Big Data, including crowd sourced travel information, is revolutionising the transport modelling world. Time consuming and costly data collection exercises are being replaced by new methods of data capture and application using mobile phones, Bluetooth and GPS devices. This provides many opportunities to enhance and extend modelled analysis to ensure better representation of travel behaviour and consequently better investment appraisal decisions.

Paul Smith, Associate Director for Transport at WSP Manchester provides an insight into these technologies, their application, potential pitfalls and practical application methods. WSP operate in a partnership role with, amongst other authorities, Lincolnshire County Council. These technologies are being applied to transport projects locally and will ensure the best outcome for investment in Lincolnshire infrastructure.
