Peter has over 35 years of experience working in Local Government, mainly in highways and transport. Peter started his career at Liverpool City Council, and became Assistant Director for Highways and Engineering at Bolton Council in 2006; Corporate Director at Trafford Council in 2010; and Head of Highways at Transport for Greater Manchester in 2014.
Peter joined Transport for the North (TfN) in July 2016, and has responsibility for the strategic development of TfN's roads programme. This includes completion of the three northern Strategic Road Studies and future delivery phases of the schemes; delivery of a wider area transport connectivity study for the Trans-Pennine Tunnel; working closely with Highways England in the development RIS2 programme; and the integration of highway schemes identified by TfN's Freight and Logistics; and International Connectivity programmes.
He is also working with colleagues to deliver TfN's 2050 Strategic Transport Plan (STP), which will define a Major Road Network for the North, and a portfolio of options to help deliver economic growth as identified in the Northern Powerhouse Independent Economic Review. The STP will underpin TfN becoming the first Sub-national Transport Body in April 2018.
