About this event

Steve Hunter, Transport for Warrington Service Manager at Warrington Borough Council will talk about the much needed new station at Warrington West. Warrington Borough Council is currently leading on its delivery in partnership with Network Rail and Arriva Rail North who will be the train operating company for the station.

Warrington West will be a modern rail station with the facilities expected by today's rail users, and in particular commuters. It will be located on the Cheshire Lines Committee route between Liverpool and Manchester and will be located between Warrington Central and Sankey for Penketh Station.

Warrington and in particular West Warrington has experienced and will continue to see substantial growth in both population and employment levels with planning permission in place for over 2000 further homes and up to 12,000 new jobs within the catchment of the new station.

The growth in West Warrington is at risk of being constrained by highway congestion issues and the delivery of Warrington West Station is fundamental to addressing these by attracting substantial numbers of new passengers to rail services who are currently undertaking their journeys by car. This will benefit both Warrington's local road network and the M62 Motorway – with Highways England being strong supporters of the station.

The station has reached an advanced stage of development with construction to start during the latter part of 2017 with the station due to open in Spring 2019.

Speaker: Steve Hunter
