Wessex Water is set to complete the delivery of its vast new water supply grid, which forms part of a £260 million investment across several schemes that will safeguard and improve water and sewerage services across the region. The improvements to the water supply grid will ensure that Wessex Water can meet current and future demands for the next 25 years.
One of the key innovations of the project is 'The Optimiser' (pump scheduling software) which monitors demand, flows and reservoir levels. In a first for the UK, the digital technology centrally monitors and manages the flow of water throughout the grid, responding reactively to meet customer demand. The ability to redistribute surplus water to areas in deficit will provide security of supply and maintain water quality throughout the region for the foreseeable future.
Drummond Modley (Grid Programme Manager, Wessex Water) and Steve Bilton (Senior Engineer and Project Manager, Atkins) shall explore how the application of digital innovations will ensure the Wessex Water Integrated Supply Grid shall meet the demands of the region for the next 25 years.
ICE is proud to deliver this evening talk is collaboration with the Chartered Institution of Water and Environment Management and the Institute of Water.
Drummond has 30 years experience in the Programme and Project Management delivery of major water supply, reservoir and wastewater projects. Since 2010, Drummond has spent 8 years managing the delivery of new infrastructure for the Water Supply Grid for Wessex Water.
Steve has worked for Atkins for more than 20 years, providing network analysis services to South West Water and Wessex Water. Steve held project management responsibilities for several design schemes associated with the Wessex Water Integrated Supply Grid, and was the overall project manager for the development and deployment of its optimiser.
