This talk will focus on the design and construction challenges faced in constructing the restoration of a canal through one of the largest roundabouts in Gloucestershire.

The scheme required the collaborative efforts of several partner organisations to make delivery of the project a reality.  It will also touch upon the impact of Covid-19 and some of the measures taken to keep the site team and members of public safe.

The panellists are:

  • Mladen Dragojlovic, Atkins – Key stats, scheme background, site history, site information, pre-construction investigations, design considerations and options. Mladen will present initial pre-works photos, design drawings
  • Graham Ellingford, Atkins – Programming and contracts
  • Wesley Tudge, Alun Griffiths – Construction and effects of Covid-19

Mladen Dragojlovic CEng MICE

Civil Engineer, Atkins

Mladen has 13 years' highway structures design experience. He is involved in all stages of the structures asset management process from inspection and maintenance planning, through to scheme management, detailed design and construction supervision.  Mladen’s most relevant experience prior to this project was in Supervising the construction of Stroud Brewery Bridge in the centre of Stroud in 2010.

Graham Ellingford CEng MICE

Construction Manager, Atkins

Graham oversees the delivery of all Major Projects for the county council. Graham is a Chartered Engineer with 40 years project delivery experience as both a business owner and senior manager for major UK and Overseas contracting organisations.

Wesley Tudge

Construction Manager, Alun Griffiths

Before joining Alun Griffiths, Wesley worked as a Contracts Project Manager for Worcestershire County Council for five years, project managing various sized schemes including the Upton upon Severn public realm scheme and the Abbey Bridge and Viaduct replacement scheme. Relevant key schemes for Gloucestershire County Council include the Elmbridge Roundabout and the Arle Court Improvements. Both projects that required significant traffic management arrangements on key strategic routes subject to high volumes of commuter traffic.

Gareth Cook CMIOSH

Managing Director, High Compliance Ltd

Gareth's business specialises in providing drone services for photography, video, surveying and 3D mapping. Gareth is also responsible for supporting Alun Griffiths as SHEQ advisor on their complex multi-disciplinary sites.
