For some parts of the country, the wettest winter in 350 years produced flooding on a scale not witnessed since the last century. This presentation will provide an insight into the work of the Environment Agency and its role in the flood event and why geography plays a key part in flood risk within Somerset. It will also touch on the Somerset County Council’s 20 year plan and the birth of the Somerset Rivers Authority.
John has worked for the Environment Agency and its predecessors for 40 years. Starting as a land drainage operative (aka labourer) in the Thames area, he moved to Somerset in 2000. He is currently Senior User for the Environment Agency helping to deliver a Somerset Rivers Authority (Local Enterprise Partnership funded) project on the Kings Sedgemoor Drain/River Sowy. He has a role in delivering emergency incident response across the Wessex area.
Married to Janice for 34 years, he lives with her on top of a hill.
