Johnis a Consultant to the Waterman Group following his time as Regional Director of Waterman in the East Midlands UK. John is a former Council Member of the Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation 2004-10 and was Chairman of the Sustainable Transport Panel. He was Managing Editor of the IHT Guide, ‘Climate Change and Sustainable Transport -the challenge for transport professionals’, (Oct 2008) and co-author Adaption for Climate Change Risks - a framework for action or Drivers for Action, (2010).In 2012 John was invited to represent ICE to deliver the Buchanan Lecture and participate in the Anglo /Japanese ICE/Japanese Society of Civil Engineers Conferences in Tokyo (Oct) and London UCL. (Nov) on ‘Dealing with Major Natural Disasters’ . For the London event he hosted the conference and welcomed the delegates on behalf of ICE. Recent publications include , ‘The UK Response to the Challenge of Climate Change’, ( June 2015) IMunE Journal and his Briefing Paper , ‘Should engineers be allowing for a potential rise of 40 C by 2040 and how?’ ( May 2017) ICE Forensic Journal .
