About this event

The construction sector has a massive impact on society, from delivering our everyday infrastructure to providing a livelihood to millions throughout the supply chain. Therefore, it has a great role and responsibility for the health, safety and wellbeing for many people. The Institution of Civil Engineers encourages its members and prospective members to manage teams effectively, manage risks and manage health, safety and welfare within our area of responsibility.

Our industry has made great strides, in recent years, in setting the standards for physical health and safety. However, increasingly professional technicians and engineers are becoming aware that health and safety are more than just about the physical side, and that mental health and wellbeing is also an important factor. This was being highlighted by the “The Big Debate 2019 - Mental health and wellbeing, London”; looking at not just how our designs could have an impact on the mental health of society but also considering how we deliver the work in a positive wellbeing culture.

As a result of Covid-19, many people are now in “social isolation”. By working from home, we significantly reduce and restrict our daily activity and natural movements. Physical activity is beneficial for mental health and wellbeing. Accessing opportunities to get physical are a real challenge considering the current situation. Levels of stress and tension may be high. To help you to focus and stay calm during this period Tideway is hosting this online event by Karen Russell Yoga at https://www.karenyoga.net/

The aim is to create an opportunity to relax by practising some yoga which may help you to develop a healthier body and a clearer mind. Yoga is much more than physical poses and breathing. By practising yoga, you could bring a different quality to your life, expanding your awareness, intellect and intuitive abilities. Other benefits may include increased strength, increased physical and mental energy, a more focussed mind and better clarity of thought.
