About this event

Thanckes oil fuel depot located in Torpoint, Cornwall has served Devonport Dockyard and the Royal Navy for nearly 100 years. It is a Tier 1 COMAH site (Control of Major Accidents and Hazards) and, as such, comes under the regulation of the Health & Safety Executive and Environment Agency.

As part of a programme of modernisation and safety improvement works, the replacement of the 1950's Yonderberry fuel jetty has become necessary as it is suffering from severe accelerated low water corrosion (ALWC) amongst other issues. The project additionally aims to deliver an upgrade to the firefighting infrastructure across the tank farm.

The Arcadis Project team will be presenting an overview of how the project has grown from the optioneering and site investigation stages to concept design and production of tender documentation whilst undertaking a comprehensive programme of stakeholder engagement. Marine Licence & Planning Consent have been granted for the project.

Close collaboration with their client, Defence Infrastructure Organization (DIO), has been crucial to the successful delivery of the project. Details of the concept design will also be given in the talk demonstrating how risk management and the requirements of the various stakeholders have been combined.
