The talk will be given by John Evans, who has more than 50 years` experience; having been involved with some of the most fascinating brides in the UK.

He will touch on developments in the associated British, European and International Standards, the materials and fabrication and erection equipment, welding and bolting employed, and the various contractual arrangements applicable over the years. Some notable successes and setbacks will be illustrated.

The event will start with complementary refreshments from 18:00, with the talk itself starting at 18:30.

There is free car parking next to the venue, please ensure to get your ticket validated by a member of staff on arrival.

This is a joint event between ICE Cheshire and IStructE Lancashire and Cheshire.

Speakers

John Evans

John Evans started his career on the foundations of the Severn Bridge in August 1961. Following 20 years working for major steelwork fabricators and erectors he joined the Flint and Neill Partnership as the Resident Engineer on the work of strengthening and refurbishment of the structures of the Severn Crossing. He continued to work for F&N until retiring as Senior Partner in 2003. He was retained as a Consultant and continues to act for Cowi UK Limited who took over F&N some six years ago.

His experience is in the construction of steel bridges and other major steelwork, with a speciality in the specification of execution, inspection and maintenance of welded steelwork and all the associated contractual considerations. He has acted as an Expert Witness for major national and international clients in disputes in his field.
