National Autistic Society

An Introduction to Autism in the workplace” is an interactive talk, designed to increase general autism awareness and the specific challenges, and opportunities, the condition presents in the workplace, as well as an overview of the reasonable adjustments concept and process. The session is an opportunity for members to explore strategies they can implement themselves and also to discover resources for further support.

The National Autistic Society’s employment training service offers a 1 hour Lunch and Learn session to promote equality and diversity within your organisation and raise awareness of autism (including Asperger syndrome) in the workplace.

This one hour introduction to autism in the workplace covers the following topics:

  • What is autism
  • Autism myth-busting
  • Positive attributes of a colleague with autism
  • Support available to meet your requirements under the Equality Act

Cath Leggett

Catherine Leggett, National Autistic Society

Catherine Leggett joined the NAS in April 2014. Catherine’s first career is in engineering, and has also worked previously on Gender Equality projects for women in SET. She was diagnosed as Autistic later in life and so is able to offer an insight on the challenges of the workplace from an employee perspective, as well as having experience of meeting the demands of business and industry from an employer and management perspective. Catherine works with employers, and employees, to overcome autism-related issues, and to optimise the strengths of autistic people in the workplace. Catherine delivers workplace assessments, training and consultancy, and presents Autism awareness sessions, speaking at conferences and various events, nationally.
