About this event

"Central Oasis" Revitalisation Project is a response to the Chief Executive's Policy Address in 2009 that the Urban Renewal Authority (URA) was tasked to revitalise the Central Market under the new initiative of "Conserving Central".

Given the high density and the need for better air ventilation in busy Central, URA proposes to adopt 'Central Oasis' as the theme for this project. The objective is to introduce more greenery into Central and to create an amenity space for the public, especially the working population in Central, for their enjoyment of a variety of leisure and relaxing activities throughout the day.

Based on the detailed requirements set out in the approved General Building Plan in 2014, the Project was estimated to cost about $1,500 million taking into account the complexity in construction and the construction time was estimated to be about 8 years. In response to URA Board's direction, refinements to details of the design scheme have been explored, not only balancing the effective expenditure of public money whilst keeping the mainstream public aspirations, but also addressing the concern raised by the Central and Western District Council and the public to expedite the Project.

ICE HKA G&S is honoured to invite Mr Wilfred Au, General Manager (Planning and Design) from URA to present the general considerations of the revised design scheme and conservation plan, highlighting its technical challenges and planning in the "Central Oasis" Revitalisation Project.

This will be a good opportunity for participants to gain insight into the conservation principles and sustainable development of the "Central Oasis".

Remarks:

  • Registration will be on a first-come-first-served basis and priority will be given to ICE graduate and student members.
  • Applicants with no-show records will be given lower priority in future G&S events.
  • Capacity: 80
