About this event

Leicester has the largest traffic-free pedestrian zone with full access to cyclists in the country. Steps to build a network of high capacity, quality walking and cycling routes are underway.

The presentation will report on progress to put Leicester's award-winning Connecting Leicester & Cycle City plans into practice.

Andy's talk will illustrate progress, challenges and successes of building a people-friendly 21st century city.

Andy Salkeld

Andy Salkeld

Andy Salkeld completed a Special Geography (Hons) in 1989 and MSC (Eng) in Transportation Planning & Engineering in 1991. Since then he has worked in Traffic Management, Accident Investigation, Traffic Calming, Safer Routes to School and Transport Development. From 2004 he has represented Leicester City Council on all aspects of cycling development (Infrastructure, Training, Promotions and Engagement).

Over the last 10 years, Leicester has seen had an average annual rise in cycling numbers of 10-15%. Cycling has become established as a key and integral part of the integrated transport strategy solution for the city. Andy has represented and championed Leicester's progress to build 'The UK's most people-friendly city' at national and international conferences & events.
