Land reclamation has been a major construction activity in a number of countries in Asia in the past decades. Many important infrastructures such as several airports and seaports in the region including the Hong Kong Chek Lap Kok Airport were constructed on reclaimed land.
However, there are challenges in adopting the traditional land reclamation methods for future land reclamation works due to new technical difficulties and environmental constraints. New approaches are required to deal with new challenges and establish methods that could preserve or enhance marine ecosystems. In this talk, existing methods for land reclamation will be briefly reviewed. Some new concepts and solutions that have been or could be potentially adopted for new generation of land reclamation projects will be presented.
These include methods for the treatment of contaminated soils or sediments, methods for use of clay slurry or soft materials for land reclamation, methods for the construction of non-dredging seawalls, and land reclamation methods without use of fill materials. Some ideas for enhancing the marine eco-system as part of the land reclamation processes will be introduced.
Registration confirmed on first-come-first-served basis and priority will be given to ICE members.
Only successful applicant will receive confirmation e-mail.
