About this event

The talk will outline the engineering challenges that need to be overcome in order to extend the line a further 2 ½ miles from Parkend to Beechenhurst and ultimately a similar distance again to Cinderford which is undergoing regeneration to new industries.

The challenges include re-grading of the line; sourcing & re-erecting 2 new stations with all the paraphernalia of waiting room/shop, engine sheds, water towers, sidings, platforms, two new bridges, a tunnel and a level crossing; approval of designs from Office of Rail and Road (ORR); finding qualified personnel.

You are welcome to arrive early to catch sight of the last steam train of the day, which arrives back in Norchard at 16.40. Check for train times at www.deanforestrailway.co.uk, if you want to come even earlier to make a day of it. Light refreshments will be available as usual from 6-6.30pm. There should be an opportunity to take a look at some of the current projects in the engine shed.
