About this event

The London 2012 Games gave civil engineers the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to create the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park - a dynamic new heart for East London, creating opportunities for local people and driving innovation and growth. Five years on and the Park is at the centre of the London Legacy Development Corporation's work to transform one of the most challenged areas of the UK into a world-class, sustainable and thriving neighbourhood.

Gavin Cunningham and Keith McIntosh from Atkins and Glynn Trippick from Buro Happold will present some of the challenges encountered since 2012 at development sites in and around the Park. Topics will include utilities at East Wick and Sweetwater, conversion of one of the pedestrian bridges from games to legacy mode, addition of a slide to the ArcelorMittal Orbit viewing platform and how the London Stadium was converted into a multi-use arena capable of delivering world-class events, whilst integrating with surrounding communities and contributing to local regeneration.

The event is free. The venue is a ten minute walk from Chelmsford railway station. Visitor's parking is available on campus from 4.30pm. Refreshments will be served from 6.00pm and the lecture will start at 6.30pm. Booking is not essential but helps us with planning.
