Use of EKG technology in a highways earthwork.

About this event

Electrokinetic Geosynthetic (EKG) stabilisation was first developed around twenty years ago. It provides an efficient, low-impact and cost-effective solution to historically difficult ground engineering and dewatering problems. Electrodes are drilled into a soil mass, and an electrical current passed between them - this causes dewatering, which leads to consolidation and strengthening. Advantages include rapid deployment; suitability for limited access situations; no need for large-volume haulage, and re-use of conventionally unacceptable material.

The system has been used successfully in remediation of earthwork assets owned by Network Rail, Highways England and numerous local authorities. It has also been used to dewater nuclear contaminated mineral slurry, agricultural slurry and sewage sludge.

This event is free. Refreshments will be served from 6.00pm and the lecture will start at 6.30pm. The venue is a ten minute walk from Chelmsford railway station. Visitor’s parking is available on campus from 4.30pm. On entering the foyer, look for the room number on the ICE notices by the staircase and lifts. Booking is not essential but helps us with planning.
