About this event

The Emerging Engineers Award promotes and rewards outstanding communication of civil engineering ideas and research.

It offers all ICE student, graduate and trainee technician members the opportunity to submit a paper on any civil engineering related topic in the format of research, a report or an essay.

Having received the entries, the judges have selected the following competitors to further develop their essay and present their papers at the South Branch regional finals:

James Bingham – WSP
"Primark Toulouse Historic Cast Iron Column Assessment"

Thomas Moran – University of Portsmouth
"The Effects of Variability in Physical and Chemical Properties of Crushed Brick Recycled Aggregate when used in Medium Strength Concrete"

The Dr Mike Cooper Memorial Award will be presented to the winning submission along with £150 prize money, with a further £75 and £25 awarded for second and third places respectively. The prize fund has been generously donated on Mike's behalf by his family, friends and colleagues.

Professor Eddie Bromhead (formerly University of Kingston) will deliver a keynote speech after the completion of the competition presentations. His speech will celebrate his shared interest and work with Mike Cooper on the topic of slope and earthwork stability.

The regional winner will be shortlisted for the 2017 Emerging Engineers Global Final, where the prestigious Institution Medal and further cash prizes can be won.

Your support for the entrants would be gratefully appreciated.
