About this event

The Emerging Engineers Award promotes and rewards outstanding communication of civil engineering ideas and research.

It offers all ICE student, graduate and trainee technician members the opportunity to submit a paper on any civil engineering related topic in the format of research, a report or an essay.

Entering the Emerging Engineers Award (EEA) allows applicants to:

  • Showcase talent in the wider engineering community
  • Develop skills and confidence in public speaking
  • Improve written and verbal skills in preparation for professional review
  • Promote their employer or universities name

Entries should be based on an applicant's own work and can be adapted from university projects, quarterly employment reports or professional review reports. Entries consist of an initial single A4 page synopsis (approximately 400 words) which, if shortlisted, should be developed further into a final submission of no more than 4,000 words.

Three synopses will be shortlisted from all entries received and chosen candidates will be required to write their full papers for presentation on 23rd November. The winner will receive £150, the runner up £75 and 3rd place £25. The winner will then go head to head with winners from other S E England branches. The successful Regional candidate's paper will be considered for the national final at One Great George Street later in 2017 where the prestigious Institution Medal and further cash prizes can be won.
