About this event

Our speaker, Cody Levine is Principal Ecologist for Worcestershire County Council.

In June 2011 the UK National Ecosystem Assessment audited our natural environment and identified that 30% of our priority species and over 40% of our priority habitats were in decline. In August 2011 the UK Government published "Biodiversity 2020: a strategy for England's wildlife and ecosystem services" which set an ambitious mission to "halt overall biodiversity loss" by 2020.

With just 4 years left to our 2020 target, this short presentation will outline review how we're progressing towards our biodiversity objective. We'll explore what makes Worcestershire's natural environment special and explore some examples of how development and the planning system, working together, contributes toward our goal of realising 'net-gain for nature' through creative design solutions and intelligent place-shaping.

Cody joined the County Council in 2008 and has worked on highways, energy, waste, minerals and residential schemes with the aim of minimising impact to biodiversity and finding opportunities to enhance our natural environment. Cody also contributes to the Worcestershire Green Infrastructure Partnership, an organisation which serves to facilitate better development through knitting together and enriching our environmental assets.
