About this event

Engineering decisions of the past brought Liverpool to pre-eminence as the second city of the British Empire. Engineering also solved the problems created by unprecedented population density, sanitation requirements, and the needs of international transport of people and goods.

The tour will take us on a street-viewing of many buildings and sites in and around the city centre which are of engineering interest. The route is based on the details which can be downloaded via the Engineering Walks website.

The tour will be finished by approximately 13:30, at which time we will convene at a local pub, where attendees can enjoy the most famous of Liverpool food; a hearty bowl of scouse! (Free to those who have registered, numbers strictly limited).

Please note: This tour is pitched primarily towards student engagement with ICE; it is recommended that guests check the information on the link prior to attending in order to enhance their enjoyment; guests are welcome to curtail the route at a convenient point.

Anybody with special dietary requirements (including allergies) should assume responsibility for checking with the provider that food is suitable for their consumption. Any guests with restricted mobility are welcome to contact Terry McCormick in advance to make sure that the route taken will be suitable.

The walk is based on the self-guided route which is available to download from the website given in the information.

Traditionally, the guided walk given in this event is led by student volunteers, and guests should understand that this is primarily a social / networking event allowing people to better appreciate and find their way around Liverpool, whilst learning from the variety of attendees from diverse backgrounds in the field of Civil Engineering.
