About this event

Brunei is one of the smallest yet wealthiest countries in the world. Traditionally, the abundance of crude oil and natural gas in the territory have formed the bedrock for its high standard of living. To maintain a sustainable development, the Brunei government launched Wawasan Brunei 2035 (Brunei Vision 2035) in 2004. Part of the goals was to shift the economic dependence from oil and gas to foreign investment.

Over the decade, major infrastructure projects have been pushed forward including the Muara and Temburong Mega Bridge. With the promotion of Belt and Road Initiative in 2016, Brunei will benefit from the opportunities from the countries along the Belt and Road.

The forthcoming delegation to Brunei will focus on the significance of sustainable infrastructures to the continuous development of the country. Delegates will not only learn the concepts and practices with regards to advanced engineering applications through site visits, seminars and meetings with the local engineers, but also explore how civil engineering opens opportunities for economic development and how sustainability is considered during the planning, design and construction of the infrastructure projects.
