For most construction professionals, their company’s insurance is something handled by someone else. Mostly they provide the certificates when required and check the limitations when tendering.

This seminar will explain the practical sides of construction insurance, summarising what insurances are available, what they cover (or what they don’t), how liability periods operate and other things which can have an impact. The effect of important key cases and how the various standard forms deal with insurance will be outlined.
Attendees should leave with a greater understanding of construction insurance including, assessing the appropriateness of liability limits and when it is appropriate to consider joint names insurances, or what other options might be available. Important aspects for procurers, tenderers and those in the midst of projects.

James has over 30 years’ experience working with major consultants and contractors throughout the UK, Ireland, Hong Kong and the Middle East. He has extremely strong practical and theoretical knowledge on all the standard forms of building contracts used in the UK and Ireland and has provided advice to central governments, local governments and contracting organisations on contractual and disputed issues.
James regularly represents parties in ADR forums, including adjudication, conciliation, mediation and arbitration. He is a practising adjudicator and a member of a number of appointing body panels including, the Institution of Civil Engineers, TeCSA and the Ministerial Panel in Ireland. As such, he is well versed on issues with construction contracts, including insurance.
John is an experienced construction professional having constructed airports for a major contractor, worked for a global consultancy and spent time in New Zealand working for a supercity council during his career. He has experienced the design, construction and regulatory sides of the industry and continues to add to his legal knowledge. He has applied for chartered status with the ICE and is nearing completion of his law degree.
John regularly provides advice and training on construction contracts and with this breadth of experience, can assess and understand the issues from multiple perspectives while putting his industry knowledge to use advising clients quickly and efficiently.
