The Scottish Ground Engineering Group (SGEG) of the ICE and the Central Scotland Regional Group (CSRG) of the Geological Society of London are jointly hosting a poster competition in Geotechnical Engineering and Engineering Geology. Entry is open to ground engineering professionals, including research students. Entrants is open for early career (between graduate and chartership) ground engineering professionals and only one person may enter on each poster.

The format for the competition comprises hosting of posters online, selecting four posters for presentation at event and final award of winner. The posters will be displayed on an openly accessible webpage one week before the online event. Entrants will answer informal questions from the judges during the week. Following this, a maximum of four posters shall be advanced to the next stage of the competition which consists of a 10-minute presentation of the poster with a 5-minute question/answer session. This will form the virtual event and guests will be invited to watch the presentations. Selection for entry to Stage 2 will be carried out on the night by a panel of judges.

The posters include a summary of the geotechnical or geological work carried out by the entrant, including a statement of the aims of the project or study, the methods employed, and the results gained together with analysis, conclusion and recommendations.

Notification of Intention to Submit a Poster
Those intending to enter should notify Peter Anning (CSRG) at[email protected] and the ICE SGEG at [email protected] no later than 24th November 2021 and include the following:

  • Organisation: (State whether contractor, consultant, undergraduate or postgraduate student)
  • Position in Organisation:
  • Contact details: (Address and phone number)
  • Title of Poster and a short synopsis of your poster/topic (up to 100 words)

Details on the competition format, including poster sizes, presentation requirements and scoring will be given to the participants once the intention to submit has been received.

Posters will be required to be submitted in their final form by 3rd December 2021.

Posters will be hosted online for 1 week before the event competition which will be held virtually on Tuesday 14th December 2021.
