The Society for Earthquake and Civil Engineering Dynamics
SECED promotes the study and practice of earthquake and civil engineering dynamics, including blast, impact, and other vibration problems.
Event organised by Society for Earthquake and Civil Engineering Dynamics
The SECED Young Members Sub-Committee (YMSC) has invited Stamatina Marinatou (AtkinsRéalis), Francesco Morfuni (newcleo) and Daniel Gilmore (Sellafield) to provide guidance on how to become a Chartered Engineer (CEng) with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE).
Drawing from their recent personal experience in achieving CEng status through the IPD route, they will provide an overview of the process whilst covering the following main topics:
Completing IPD online.
Professional Review report writing and submission.
Professional Review interview and communication task.

AtkinsRéalis
senior geotechnical engineer
Stamatina is a senior geotechnical engineer at AtkinsRéalis. She is experienced in delivering geotechnical and seismic packages of work for a range of sectors, including Nuclear. Her work ranges from geotechnical desk studies to advanced numerical modelling for soil-structure-interaction problems. She was a member of the SECED YMSC since 2018 and served as Chair during 2021-2022.
Sellafield Ltd
structural analyst
Daniel is a chartered civil and structural engineer working for Sellafield which presents one of the most significant environmental remediation challenges in Europe. He is currently working in the structural analysis team and provides technical expert support to project teams. He is also responsible for the development of new methods for seismic, impact, and Soil-Structure-Interaction (SSI) analyses.
newcleo
senior engineer (civils & structures)
Francesco is a Chartered Civil Engineer and Committee Member of SECED, with an MEng in civil engineering from Sapienza University of Rome and an MSc in Earthquake Engineering with Disaster Management from the University College of London. He is a senior engineer in newcleo, contributing to the development of the Gen-IV nuclear lead-cooled fast reactors. His expertise lies in the fields of Structural and Earthquake Engineering, having worked for several nuclear new-build projects, including Hinkley Point C and Rolls Royce SMR.
