BGA Annual Conference 2021, London

Overview

The programme will focus on topical subjects, projects and research, and include the Annual General Meeting and prize-giving, when the BGA recognises excellence in geotechnical engineers across a range of competitions.

Rachel Skinner, the President of the ICE, will open proceedings by giving an introduction to the Net Carbon Agenda, followed by a speaker from Network Rail offering their perspective on this important issue.

Lessons learnt from the COVID pandemic in terms of Health and Safety will also be covered and there will be a number of project updates related to offshore wind power and the modelling of Climate Change, particularly the effect on earthworks, the Hinkley Point C project and HS2. In addition, there will be a talk on research related to foundations for overhead electrified line equipment.

The Programme will also include presentations from younger members of our profession, the Cooling Prize winner, and the winner of the BGA Masters Prize. As in previous years the work of CIRIA and the AGS will be featured. An update on the BGA’s work to establish a “Technologists” community will be highlighted.

There will be plenty of opportunity for much-needed networking to take place amongst our sponsors’ exhibition in the Great Hall, where refreshments will be provided, and the day will conclude with a post-conference drinks reception.

The event is FREE for all to attend but advance registration is essential.
