A day in the life of a contractor

Event organised by ICE

12 March 2024
13:00 - 14:00 GMT

This event has now ended

The Thames Valley Early Careers Network (TV ECNet) is delighted to bring you the first in our 2024 series of ‘Day in the Life’ talks.

Civil engineering careers can take many paths, and it can be difficult to know which is best for you – regardless of what stage you’re at in your career! Our ‘day in the life’ series aims to give an insight into the various options, including consultancy, contracting, client, academia and apprenticeships.

This first session will focus on contracting, and we will be joined by three speakers who are working on the EKFB joint venture (consisting of Eiffage, Kier, Ferrovial, and BAM) delivering the central 80 km of HS2 Phase 1.

Our panellists are:

  • Adam Turner – assistant design manager
  • Ruth Marsden – assistant completions and handover manager
  • Arjun Baladas – section engineer

Together, they will be able to provide a rounded overview of what working for a large contractor is like – and show that it’s not all 5am starts and muddy boots.

Each speaker will provide a short overview of their role, before opening the floor up to questions from the audience – so make sure to come prepared.

The series is aimed at all early careers members of the ICE, but students, apprentices, and recent graduates may get particular value from the session.
