Overview

This presentation explores the concept of embodied carbon and its implications in civil engineering. It discusses the challenges we face in managing embodied carbon and the strategies required for its reduction, as well as showcasing the standard procedure of estimating embodied carbon using industry's guide.

It introduces the recent technological developments which engineers should be aware of as part of the project, as well as the key design principles of ‘build nothing’ and ‘build less’ to reduce carbon.

Finally, the presentation also introduces the future of sustainable design, emphasizing that it’s not just about reducing carbon but considering sustainability in a holistic manner.

This is a hybrid event, taking place both in person and online. If you are attending online, please indicate this in the special requirements box when registering, and you will receive the joining link closer to the event date.
