Overview

Join Thames Valley branch as we visit a site that is going to reinvigorate the town of Guildford!

As part of the Slyfield Area Regeneration Project (SARP), Guildford’s 60-year-old sewage treatment works (STW) are being relocated, allowing the construction of thousands of new homes on the current site.

The STW will be moved to a former landfill site on Slyfield Industrial Estate, with the relocation works valued at £80M. Alongside the construction of the STW itself, works include the construction of a 1.5km, 1500mm diameter tunnel, and new effluent and stormwater pipes into the River Wey. The new works has capacity for treatment of wastewater for a population of 120,000, effectively planning for future growth in Guildford. The proposal will result in a 10% new gain in biodiversity value, and to date has delivered £2M of social value.

The project is being constructed in a joint venture between BAM and Doosan Enpure, who will be welcoming a small group to site, giving a presentation on the project to date, and showing us the progress so far. Spaces are limited so sign up early to guarantee you’ll be able to join us!

Please note that site are not able to provide PPE, so all attendees must be able to provide their own. PPE requirements are: Lace up safety boots, hard hat, gloves, glasses, long-sleeved hi-vis top (yellow or orange), and hi-vis trousers.
